Learn from the Masters

Two blogs I check into daily have both written about other artists and their impact on vision and technique this week. One is David Hobby’s Strobist entry of July 12, the other is David duChemin’s July 13 post in PixilatedImage. These photographers are masters of their craft and their blogs are readable and highly informative.

Hobby writes about the painter Edward Hopper in an imagined interview. He tries to reverse engineer the lighting in Hopper’s Nighthawks as if he were recreating the scene as a photographer. The article is both entertaining and instructive

DuChemin discusses the impact of photographer Elliott Erwitt’s work on his personal inspiration.

Both blogs are worth checking out and the short articles deserve a few minutes of reflective reading.
