Another Nigerian Scam ... Sellers Beware

Phony Buyer Targets Amazon Marketplace

I've had a high-end lens posted on Amazon Marketplace for over a month.  Finally, a prospective buyer sends a message via Amazon Marketplace telling me he's interested and could I send pictures.

A buyer has sent you a message regarding an item on your Amazon.com store. Please remember that you should not honor any requests to ship an item or complete a transaction outside Amazon.com.

Ordering Canon TS-E 17mm send pics to me: mexxi679@yah oo . c0m

I respond back through Amazon Marketplace with attached images.  He responds back via Amazon, saying the images didn't attach, and asks that I e-mail the pictures directly to him at the following address.

Note the e-mail address he gives is a little screwed up, with extraneous spaces and a zero instead of an "o".  I clean up the address and send the images off directly to him.

Now he has my e-mail address!

Half a day later I get an e-mail from the buyer telling me he's buying the lens and how I should ship it.

Hello Seller,
I've recently made and complete your payment and i'll like you get my order shipped express mail service from the post office to the below address and get back to me with the shipment tracking reference number. Please do not include the price of the item on the package due to heavy custom charges here in Nigeria, pack it as a gift item only and you can value it under 300 dollars if compulsary.

There's more boiler plate that goes on for more than an additional page, include the particulars about the selling price, the shipping charges, etc.

I become suspicious.  I've sold a lot of stuff through Amazon Marketplace, and this isn't the kind of shipping label they send to me when I've made a sale.

I go to my order history page, and there's nothing recorded as a sale! I send the "buyer" an e-mail thanking him for the order, and informing him the item will ship as soon as I receive confirmation of the sale on the order history page.  I then call Amazon to find out what's going on.  A live person talks to me.  He says the order ID number is bogus.  This is a scam.  No order has occurred.

I haven't heard back from the "buyer." My item is still posted on Amazon Marketplace.  Anyone want a lens?
